APlaySmart is OLG’s new education and support program, designed to take away the mysteries of gambling, not the thrills. It helps all players – new and seasoned - to play smart, to keep gambling fun, and to get help if they need it.
APlayOLG requires that players acknowledge upon login that they are not under the influence of alcohol or any other substance that may impair their judgment. This is to help ensure that players are able to make clear decisions so that their gambling remains safe and fun.
If you are concerned that alcohol use is affecting your gambling behaviour or the behaviour of someone you know, please contact Player Support at 1-855-978-PLAY (7529). If you disclose to PlayOLG that you are intoxicated or impaired, we will log you out of your account and encourage you to wait before returning to gamble on PlayOLG.
AA Weekly Deposit Limit is an amount of money that you choose that represents the maximum amount that you can deposit into your account each week. Once the Weekly Deposit Limit is reached, you will no longer be able to deposit funds into your account for the duration of that period. Increases to your Weekly Deposit Limit will go into effect seven days after the change is made. Decreases are effective immediately.
ASetting your Weekly Deposit Limit is an important step to help keep gambling safe and fun. By doing this, you can decide how much you can realistically afford to spend on gambling each week. Remember, gambling is a form of entertainment and not a way to make money.
AYour Casino Loss Limit is the maximum amount you can lose from your starting balance in a chosen time period (daily, weekly or monthly). This amount refers to your net loss, calculated after winnings. Once the Casino Loss Limit is reached, you can no longer gamble for real money during the specified period. PlayOLG will not allow you to make a wager that could potentially exceed your Loss Limit. Lottery product purchases do not count towards this Limit.
Here’s an example: You begin the day with $20 cash in your account and have set yourself a $10 Daily Loss Limit. Through the course of play, you win $5, making the total cash amount in your account $25. You then lose $10, giving you total cash balance of $15. Your net loss for the day is still only $5, so you can continue playing. If your next wager results in a further loss of $5, you will have reached a net loss of $10, which is your Daily Loss Limit, and you won’t be able to continue.
Any funds that you deposit during the time period are not counted towards this net, so depositing more money isn’t going to stop you from hitting your Casino Loss Limit. Increases in Casino Loss Limits go into effect seven days after the change is made. Decreases are effective immediately.
AYour Casino Loss Limit is the maximum amount you can lose from your starting balance in a chosen time period (daily, weekly or monthly). It is equal to the dollar amount you set plus the value of bets placed after the first bet when playing certain table games. For table games, Casino Loss Limits are checked only at the time of your first bet for each hand and not for subsequent bets in the same hand. It is possible for your actual losses to be greater than the dollar amount you set.
For example, in Texas Hold'Em a player may have $25 remaining within their Casino Loss Limit. This player may choose to place a $10 Ante bet which is checked against the Casino Loss Limit. Because this bet is within the Limit, the player may place the bet. If the player wishes to continue to play the cards dealt, the Call bet would be $20. Additionally, the player has the option to place two more bets for $10 each. The player can place these bets, even though the potential loss ($10 + $20 +$10 + $10 = $50) is more than the amount left within the Casino Loss Limit ($25). The player may finish playing out this hand but, if the amount lost is more than $25, would not be allowed to play another hand until the next time period.
After you set any of your Limits, any increase will take seven days to take effect. Decreasing your Limits will take effect immediately.
AYour Weekly Deposit Limit is the maximum amount that you can deposit into your PlayOLG account each week. It’s an amount you set yourself, and you don’t need to deposit the full amount each week unless you want to. Your Casino Loss Limit is the highest amount that you’re willing to lose during a specific period (daily, weekly, monthly).
AA Session Time Limit allows you to set the duration that you can play a particular game. After all, it can be easy to lose track of time when you’re having fun. This is different from a login session (i.e. from time of login to time of logout). A Session Time Limit is specific to the casino game currently being played. When your time limit is exceeded, your current casino game will automatically stop. You now have to decide if you should stop gaming or if you wish to continue gaming by launching a casino game (it can be the same casino game you were just playing).
AA Break is a time period that you choose in which you’ll be unable to play casino games for real money, purchase lottery products or deposit funds into your account. You will still be able to access your account, withdraw funds and play casino games for free while on a Break. Breaks can range in duration from one day to three months.
AMy PlaySmart Manager allows you to set your Lottery Purchase Limit and Weekly Deposit Limit, as well as your Daily, Weekly and Monthly Loss Limits. For the purpose of these durations, a day is 12:00 AM to 11:59:59 PM. Weekly and monthly durations refer to calendar weeks (Monday to Sunday) and calendar months.
Session Time Limits are calculated per session, not per week. When your time limit expires, your game will automatically stop.
APlayOLG provides you with information about your play patterns and the risk associated with them. This way, you can recognize changes in your play that might indicate that you’re at higher risk for developing a gambling problem.
We also encourage you to use the Self-Check test within My PlaySmart Manager. It’s a great way to help understand your Risk Profile.
ASelf-Exclusion is a voluntary program that provides you with the opportunity to stop gambling on PlayOLG for a length of time that you choose (six months to indefinite). If you participate, you commit to avoid logging on to PlayOLG for the duration of your Self-Exclusion term. When you take this step, your contact information is removed from all OLG marketing lists and any cash balance in your PlayOLG account is returned to you.
If you opt to self-exclude, it’s because you feel that it’s no longer in your best interest to keep gambling. More information about PlayOLG’s program can be found on the Self-Exclusion page.
ANo it doesn’t. PlayOLG’s Self-Exclusion program applies to all of its games, including lottery, offered on PlayOLG. If you’re currently self-excluded from OLG casino and slots gambling, you are ineligible to register or play on PlayOLG. However, if you register for Self-Exclusion from PlayOLG, you will not automatically be self-excluded from OLG slots and casinos in Ontario.
If you wish to register for land-based Self-Exclusion you can find more information here or by contacting PlayOLG Support 24/7 by telephone at 1 855 978 PLAY (7529).
